MBS Holistic Training was purchased by YMCA Invercargill in 2016 and is run by Dave Cheyne under the YMCA Invercargill umbrella. Dave puts an emphasis on making lifestyle changes that are realistic and permanent. Communication and education play key roles in understanding the importance of balance and the physical activities required to achieve your goals.

Our purpose is to help people become fit, happy, healthy and smiling. This is done in a friendly, awareness building education process. The vision is that by helping people become fit, happy, healthy and smiling we can assist them to make better decisions in their lives and thus help them consciously evolve and thrive.

About Dave Cheyne

After studying for a Bachelor of Physical Education at Otago University, Dave went on to study through the CHEK Institute, there he achieved the qualifications of CHEK (Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology) Practitioner Intern Level 1, Nutrition and Holistic Lifestyle Coach Level 2 and FDN (functional diagnostic nutrition).

The holistic approach taken by the CHEK institute fits closely with Dave’s world view, personal values and views on life. More recently Dave has gained qualifications as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner.

Dave has been studying and working in the fitness industry for over twenty years, both in New Zealand and overseas. His roles have included personal training, facilitation / education of personal trainers and various management positions.

Dave has also been a top athlete himself, having competed in regional and national body building competitions, regional rugby representative and numerous multi-sport and triathlon events.

After travelling the world, Dave returned to his hometown of Invercargill in 2006 to start MBS Holistic Training. The purpose of MBS Holistic Training is to help people become fit, happy, healthy and smiling.

Gym Hours

Monday to Thursday: 5:30am to 8:30pm

Friday: 5:30am to 8:00pm

Saturday and Sunday: 8:00am to 4:00pm

The YMCA Gym is a community facility and our focus is on providing a space where everyone feels welcome and safe. We hold strongly to the view that it is important that we have staff available at all times when the gym is open – this isn’t possible for us 24 hours a day. We have tailored our hours to best meet our communities needs.

Week Trial

A healthy lifestyle is a commitment and different gyms suit different people better. That is why we offer a 7-day pass to the YMCA for $15 so you can try out the facilities and see if you feel comfortable before you fully commit to training at our gym.
