At the Y we provide after school services for children aged 5-12 years as well as school holiday programmes. Programmes are MSD accredited and subsidies may be available for your family.

Our after school programme is full of fun and learning! How do we know they’re fun? The kids are involved in planning the week’s activities! As per our core philosophy, we encourage our tamariki to build themselves into strong individuals. We have the resources available to allow your kids to participate and grow in active, creative, explorative play, guided by enthusiastic, engaging staff,

After School Care

Our After School Care programme is held at;

  • The Y, 77 Tay Street, Invercargill

Children either come straight from school or our trusted drivers pick them up from school in our vans. All our vehicles are registered and warranted and our staff carry a full NZ Driver Licence. We pride ourselves on being safe and alert drivers.

The Y has an excellent Y-Junior team who are here to provide your child with high quality care.

We provide them with afternoon tea, help them with any homework they need done and entertain them with games, sports, arts, crafts, baking and much more.

We have a staff ratio of one adult to every 10 children each afternoon.

Programme hours

We open at 3pm and close at 6pm.


We provide the following foods:

  • Fruit + veg daily: oranges, apples, bananas, pineapple, carrots.
  • Other things on the menu can include: pasta, toasties, crackers + cheese, muffins, scones, popcorn, yoghurt, sandwiches
  • We can also cater to any special dietary needs.


You can book your child into our programme for a daily rate of $23. You may be eligible for a WINZ subsidy for this service.

Y-Junior Holiday Programmes

The Y has an excellent Y-Junior team ready to provide quality care during school holiday breaks.

We have full and half day options for children aged 5-12 years, and we’re open 8am to 6pm.

All programmes have a variety of free play and organised activities including excursions in addition to those identified as daily activities such as:

  • Arts, crafts and games
  • Baking
  • Sport and recreation activities
  • Community engagement actitivies
  • Nature walks and scavenger hunts
  • And lots more…

7am to 6pm


Lunch is provided as well as morning and afternoon tea.


$65.00 per full day (5+ hours)
$45.00 per 1/2 day (0-5 hours)
Minimum daily charge applies

Book a full week for $300.

A 5% discount is available for two or more children who attend three or more days a week. Many parents are eligible for a Work and Income subsidy for this service.

Excursions/trips must be paid at time of booking.

How do I book?

If you are new to the Y’s Y-Junior services, please feel free to give us a call on 03 218 2989 or email Enable JavaScript to view protected content. to discuss your needs.

If you are one of our regular Y-Juniors families, you can book or amend your bookings through our AimyPlus online Parent Portal. This includes enroling your child/ren, making and viewing bookings, updating your personal information, viewing invoices and viewing your child/rens photos enjoying the programme.

*Bookings must be made before 1pm on the (working) day prior to attendance*

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Go to the following link address http://ymca-south.aimyplus.com
  2. Click the purple “Register Now” button.
  3. Follow the registration process and enrol your child/ren
  4. After this has been done, click the dashboard in the Menu Bar at the top of the screen, now you can make a booking :)
  5. Click on the “Make a booking” button and complete the booking into the desired programme
  6. Once completed, your booking is now pending and will be confirmed within 24 hours.
