Youth Development

The Y is here to champion youth development.

We’re here to enable meaningful opportunities for young people to actively participate in our community.

This means listening to and understanding young people. It means co-designing opportunities alongside young people. It means empowering young people to contribute to decisions that impact them.

We are implementing this approach throughout our organisation.

You can see it in our flagship youth development programme, Raise Up.
Raise Up is about empowering young people to lead and make decisions. It’s a programme by youth, for youth, and we’re excited about its potential to impact young people in the south.

You can see it in our youth work and mentoring services.
Our youth workers work alongside young people and their family/whanau to help them to achieve their goals.

You can see it in our gym-based programmes, Girls Squad and Teen Gym.
These programmes are specifically for young people, aged 12 to 18 years, and are led and guided by the young people involved.

And you’ll see it a lot more in the coming years across programmes, initiatives and the way we work as an organisation.
