We build strong kids
strong families strong communities

At the Y, we run a wide range of services and programmes for youth in Murihiku/Southland.

We aim to empower young people to be their best selves.

Youth mentoring
Our team of youth workers work one-on-one alongside young people aged between 12 and 18 years; walking alongside them in a mentoring capacity to support them as they navigate life’s challenges.

Y-Squads
We run free weekly group sessions for different cohorts of young people, where there is a focus on trying new activities in a safe, supported setting. Squads (for young people aged between 12 and 24 years) are about connecting young people with new opportunities, and giving them the chance to connect with new friends. It’s about fun, friendship and trying new things - and it’s completely free!

Inclusion Squad
Our Inclusion Squad (also free!) is specifically for young people with impairments and has a focus on play and recreation. It’s about creating a safe and supportive group environment for young people to try new experiences, gain confidence and take part in a range of different group activities. Find out more »

Leadership programmes
The Y runs outdoor leadership programmes for young people. Based at our outdoor camp at Omaui and embracing all things adventure-based learning, participants engage in activities that support their confidence, communication, team work and leadership skills. Find out more »

Teen Gym
Weekdays from 3.30pm to 5pm, join the Y’s Teen Gym where our team offers specific support for those aged 12 to 18 years. Find out more »
